BAD BOYS
Press Release
Pascal Fine Art is pleased to feature the painter, photographer, graphic designer and videographer Rafaël Gray in a new exhibition "Rafael Gray, Bad Boys" Do you see what I see?
Through the series Bad Boys, Rafael Gray improvises and gives himself no limit in a form of automatic writing. The language of the street and the art of the street join here the artist's studio, it is necessary to act quickly and to let go. These paintings are graphic propositions that carry with them the joy and the troubles of childhood. Two children are watching us. They had to interrupt the games and face the lens of the photographer, a pose full of naive provocation and strong of innocence. In front of a wall covered with graffiti, the kids impose their presence and sing a rebellious attitude of future teenagers. Gavroches with tongue hanging, little punks, Bad boys ... Photographic moment reproduced in series, used as an excuse to paint. The painting composes and decomposes the matrix image. The painting rubs against the signs proposed by the photo "cliche". From "Bad Boys" to "Bad Painting". An improvisation without specific intentions ... A raw painting, of origin Pop, Punk and Graffiti, mix of kind, free, which would like not to take itself seriously. The art of the street joins here the artist's studio, we must act quickly and let ourselves go. Provoked encounters between different kinds of visual elements. Like the styles, the eyes are crossed ... The subject is watching you, viewers who observe the scene and the elements that compose it. Mix of Narrative Signs ... Words, Tags, "Enjoy" ... "Funny Boy"! ... Two alter ego comic characters on the graffiti wall, Picasso's Don Quichotte on one's t-shirt, and an Indian helmeted chief on the other's t-shirt. We get lost ... Do you see what I see?
